Congratulation to Bethany Kristi Morin and her mentor, Dr. Joseph Chen for winning top poster award in microbiology at the 2017 ABRCMS conference!
Beth is a senior majoring in Cell & Molecular Biology, a SF BUILD scholar, and a young investigator conducting research in Dr. Joseph Chen’s laboratory at San Francisco State University. Beth presented a poster on the “Regulation of Exopolysaccharide Production in Rhizobia-Legume Symbiosis”, and was selected as one of the 2017 poster presentation awardees. Over 1,800 posters are presented each year in the various disciplines, and a select and distinguished few receive the presentation awardee recognition.
The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) is one the largest professional conferences for underrepresented students. The first ABRCMS was hosted by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) in 2001 and welcomed 1,855 attendees. Since then, ABRCMS has grown to over 4,000 attendees and is funded by a NIH-NIGMS grant. This year’s conference took place on November 1-4 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, AZ.
