A Message from Madeline Flamer about Jabulani/Black Grad for Summer 2017:

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Administrators

We are approaching graduation season and this year’s Jabulani Celebration (Black Grad), will take place on Friday, May 26th, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Main Gym. Our theme: “A Step Toward Change, a Walk Toward Equality, a March Toward Justice.” Our Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Michael Tillotson from The Africana Studies Department of the University of Pittsburgh.

Last year after the ceremony, some of you asked, “What can I do to help next year?” Well, that was music to my ears! To be placed on the list-serve, please send an email to bfsa@sfsu.eduif you know any graduating students receiving their Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate, please send them the following link for them to register and participate in the celebration. Keep in mind that Jabulani is University-wide and not limited to one department, it belongs to all of us.

Please send me an email Madeline@sfsu.edu if you are interested in assisting with the program planning, volunteer dinner, helping select student speakers, helping distribute bids at the rehearsals, assisting with stage management. There are other supporting opportunities; I just listed a few.

Also, Jabulani is a student-run organization that receives minimal funding from the school so if would like to donate to the organization, please contact them at jabulani@mail.sfsu.edu.  Jabulani does have a Tax I.D. so feel free to contact them for the Tax I.D. number.

I will check in with you in a few weeks to get RSVPs. We have to get a head count to hold back tickets and reserve space for you.

Thank you for your time,

Madeline Flamer

Advisor, Jabulani/Black Grad
