After making hard decisions, Luis Chumpitaz decided to attend Stanford University for his PhD program in Biophysics.
Born and raised in Peru, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, at the age of 15, and was always interested in science and technology. With the recent growth of technology and data science usage in the biomedical sciences, he is interested in applying his skills and learn more about such areas by doing research in a bioinformatics laboratory while in SF BUILD. Chumpitaz graduated from SF State with a BS in Computer Engineering with a minor in Physics in 2019, and an MS in Computer Science in 2021.
Maria Cruz was recently accepted into multiple PhD programs, and has decided to take her talents to UC Davis' Public Health Science PhD program.
Cruz grew up in Alabama before moving to the eastside of San Jose, CA, at the age of fifteen. Her research passions include studying health disparities within vulnerable communities and how the health in these communities can be improved. Her educational goal is to attain a dual doctoral degree, MD-PhD. Cruz graduated from SF State with a BS in Biology concentration in Physiology with a minor in Chemistry, and an MS in Public Health in Community Health Education and Social Justice Concentration in 2021.
