For students ready to lead as near-peer mentors, this program offers professional development, networking, and stipends while helping others pursue biomedical/health careers.
Goals of Program
- Provide professional development for AoC Mentors to share resources and pathways to health careers as near-peer mentors
- Connect students to a wider network of professionals and students working within biomedical/health fields
- Provide mentorship for AoC Mentors to pursue their professional goals in biomedical/health career paths
- Create systems and programs to make resources accessible and visible
- Build community among students pursuing biomedical/health careers

Program Requirements and Expectations
Summer '25
- Attend in-person Summer Training June 9th-13th and June 16th-18th and 20th, 10am-1pm
- Attend biweekly zoom planning check-in in July and August
Fall '25/Spring '26
- Create partnerships, cultivate relationships, and coordinate with external partners
- Create and deliver one event/workshop per semester (2 total)
- Support cohort members events/workshops
- Facilitate 1-on-1 check-in with mentees per semester
- Lead small peer mentor group once per month
- Attend in person 90-minute monthly Check-ins in Fall and Spring with SF BUILD Mentors
Eligibility
In accordance with Federal and State Law our program does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, health or disability.
- Currently enrolled Junior or Senior undergraduate or master’s student at SFSU in a biomedical major, or recently graduated from SFSU within 1 year.
- Actively pursuing a biomedical/health career path
- Commit to program for 1 year (June 2025- May 2026)
- 1yr of research, clinical, or community engaged experience.
- Biomedical or health career major (ie. biology, chemistry, engineering, social science, nursing, dentistry ect.)
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous leadership experience, experience and/or participation in clubs or organizations, experience navigating biomedical/health career pathways.
