Melissa Hagan, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at San Francisco State University (SFSU) and an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She obtained her PhD in clinical psychology from Arizona State University in 2013, completed a one-year APA-accredited clinical science internship at the Institute for Juvenile Research in the Psychiatry Department of University of Illinois, Chicago Medical Center, and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Child Trauma Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF. Dr. Hagan’s expertise spans clinical, developmental, and biological psychology, with a focus on how stress and adversity impact functioning at different stages of the life span. She is particularly interested in intergenerational processes of risk and resilience and the design of effective psychosocial interventions. In addition to her research, Dr. Hagan is a licensed clinical psychologist, teaches the undergraduate class Theories of Personality at SFSU, and provides clinical supervision to therapists in training.
