We are a computational biology lab addressing questions about genetic variation within and between species. We apply and sometimes develop statistical methods to ask (and hopefully answer questions about) variation in genetic sequence and expression of those sequences.

Forensic genetics

Forensic DNA analysis is a powerful quantitative tool for assessing genetic identity.

However, forensic genetic technologies raise complex questions in terms of both technical population genetics and social impact. We use statistical genetics to understand the limits of the population genetic models that forensic analyses rely on.

At the same time, we use simulation-based approaches to quantify the accuracy and power of forensic genetic tools, particular low-template DNA mixture analysis and investigative genetic genealogy.
