It is with great pride that we introduce a new scholarship honoring the remarkable legacy of Dr. Leticia Márquez-Magaña. This distinguished award celebrates Dr. Márquez-Magaña's pioneering contributions to biomedical research spanning more than three decades, and her profound influence on countless individuals in the scientific community.
The Trailblazer Scholarship stands as a testament to Dr. Márquez-Magaña's transformative work and enduring commitment to advancing biomedical science. Through this scholarship, we aim to continue her legacy of excellence and inspiration for future generations of researchers.
Scope
The Márquez-Magaña Trailblazer Scholarship celebrates the accomplishments of an SF State student who is pushing the limits of biomedical research through their innovative scholarship, change-making impact, and social justice activism. These characteristics embody the ethos of the SF BUILD legacy and mission to enhance diversity in the biomedical research workforce to improve health outcomes for historically marginalized communities. The selected awardee will receive a $5,000 Stipend for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current enrolled SF State student: undergraduate or Master’s level
- Engaged in biomedical research with a demonstrated community impact
- Demonstrated capacity for leading the next generation to enhance diversity of the biomedical workforce
- Demonstrated resistance capital; standing up against institutional climate and policies
- Desire to continue training in biomedical research (broader than graduate degree), leadership development, and community engaged research
- Nominations can either be self-nominations or from a faculty or staff mentor
Timeline:
- December 2nd: Nominations Due
- December 16th: Nominations Reviewed
- January 13th: Award Recipient Announcement
